２０２６年の３月に、新しい仲間と大瀬崎でダイビングをしてきた。ただ、その経緯は、２０２５年の夏に訪れた琴ヶ浜にてのスキンダイビングに遡る…。
In March 2026, I went diving at Osezaki with some new friends. However, the 
story behind the diving goes back to a skin diving experience at Kotogahama in the summer of 2025…

夏にはスキューバ・ダイビングのお客が増える。2年の浪人生活を経た頃からであったろうか。大人数での行動にあまり楽しみを感じず、むしろ煩わしさを覚えるようになった。そのため、夏になるとスキン・ダイビングに移行している。
In the summer, the number of scuba diving customers increases. I think that it 
was probably around the time I spent the extra two years studying for university entrance exams that I started to find large groups of people less enjoyable, and even more bothersome. Therefore, I switch to skin diving in the summer.

伊豆半島でスキン・ダイビング、あるいはシュノーケリングで楽しめる場所を調べたところ、熱海近隣に地形が楽しめ、海水の透明度も高いと評判の琴ヶ浜があることが分かった。
When I researched places on the Izu Peninsula where I can enjoy skin diving or snorkeling, I found Kotogahama near Atami, which is known for its beautiful 
topography and clear waters.
まずは、海岸の右手の岩場沿いを観察してみる。
First, I observed the rocky area on the right side of the coast.

海中から陸へと続くうねる様な地形は、細かい横断の層が幾重にも重なっている。下の写真は、岩場の奥の一地点から左、真ん中、右を眺めたものである。
The undulating terrain that extended from the sea to the land was composed of many layers of fine transverse formations. The photo below shows the view to 
the left, center, and right from a single point at the back of the rocky area.
岸辺の左端でバーベキューをしている、楽しげな団体がいる。同年代くらいだろうか。
There's a cheerful group having a barbecue on the far left of the shore. They 
looked to be around my age.

次に備えて着衣を岩の上で乾かし、体を温めていると、一人が海に出て真っ直ぐ泳いでいくと、すっくと海面に立ち上がった。そこに、海底からせり上がった大きな岩があることが分かる。
As I dried my clothes on the rocks and warmed myself up in preparation for the next dive, one of them went out to sea and swam straight ahead, then rose to 
his feet straight up on the sea. I could understand that there was a large rock 
rising from the seabed.
そこがネットで紹介されていた岩であろう。そこを目指して、海に入る。ただ、正確な場所が解らないので、泳ぎながら自分の位置を絶えず確認しつつ方向を定めて、泳ぎ進めるしかない。まず、手前に浮いている黄色いブイを経由する。そこからは確かあっちの…、暗中ならぬ、海中模索の作業になるので、不安は常に拭えなかった。
That must be the rock that was featured online. I headed into the sea, aiming 
for it. However, as I didn't know the exact location, I had no choice but to 
constantly check my position and direction as I swam. First, I went past the 
yellow buoy floating in front of me. From that location, it was definitely over 
there... it was like groping in the dark, or rather, groping underwater, so I could 
never shake off my anxiety.

ほぼ海水しか見えない景色を、自分を信じて黙々と泳ぎ続けると、海面へ突き出るように伸びる巨岩に出会うことができた。うろうろと探し続けて、無駄に体力を消耗する危惧がなくなったので、正直ほっとした。
As I continued to swim diligently, trusting in myself, through a landscape where almost nothing but seawater was visible, I was able to come across a massive 
rock that seemed to jut out of the sea. I was honestly relieved that I no longer 
had to worry about wasting energy wandering around searching.
ダイビングを終え、秋や冬、春もここで潜れないだろうかと、スキューバ・ダイビングのショップを探してみる。一軒を見付け、パンフレットがないかと一人の女性スタッフに尋ねる。だが、そこはタンクを貸すだけで、インストラクター付きのファン・ダイビングを行っていなかった。
After finishing my dive, I started looking for a scuba diving shop to see if I could dive here again in the fall, winter, or spring. I found one shop and asked a 
female staff if this shop had any brochures. However, here only rented out tanks and didn't offer the fun dives with instructors.

その店員さんが、今、ちょうどいい人がいると、バーベキューをしていた一人を呼び寄せてくれた。その方は、店舗を持たずにダイビング・ツアーを企画・運営しており、ここ琴ヶ浜ではダイビングの常連とのことであった。
The staff told me that there was just the right person for my situation and called over one of the people who was having a barbecue. I heaed that this person 
plans and operates diving tours without owning a shop, and apparently is a 
regular diver at Kotogahama.

連絡先を教えていただき、それから交流が始まることになる。
I got his contact information, and that's how our relationship began.
