熱海の海、ビーチからそれほど遠くない海底に、巨大な船が沈んでいる。全長は８１ｍ、幅は１８ｍある。船体は真っ二つに割れて、前方と後方が別れてしまっている。日本では屈指の大きさなので、わざわざ遠方から訪れるダイバーも多いようである。名は”旭十六号”、課せられた役割は石積船であった。
人工物は漁礁となることが多いので、敢えて老朽化した船を沈めるところもあると言う。だが、この”旭十六号”はあまりに過酷な労務に船体が耐え切れず、真ん中で折れてしまったそうである。激務で疲弊するのは、人も船も同じなのであろう。汚水処理場の埋め立てのために大量の砂利を運搬していたのだが、要求されたハイペースに船体がもたなかった。意外と最近のことで、およそ３０年前のことである。
The huge ship sinks on the bottom of Atami's sea which is not so far from
"Sun Beach." The total length is 81m, and the width is 18m. The hull was split in two, and the front part and the back part were separated. As it is one of the
largest sunken ship in Japan, many divers visited here from afar expressly. The
name is "Asahi (Rising Sun) 16-gou." The imposed role was the masonry ship.
As almost artifacts in the sea become the fishing reefs, the dilapidated ships
might be sunk intentionally. However, as for this "Asahi 16-gou," the hull couldn't withstand the harsh labor. Therefore, it was broken in the middle. People and ships alike would be exhausted by the continuous hard works. Though it
transported the large amounts of gravel to landfill the sewage treatment plant,
the hull couldn't keep up with the required high pace. The accident occurred
more recently than we thought. It was about 30 years ago.
熱海のダイビングは、ボートのみである。ダイビングのポイントは幾つもあるが、全てボートで移動する。ポイントへの往復時には、海から熱海の街並みを一望することができる。
私個人としては、泳ぎがあまり得意ではないことに加えて高所恐怖症なので、ボートから海に飛び込んだ際に海底が見えないのが不安で仕方ない。今、自分が何処にいるのかも解らぬままにロープを頼りに潜降していくと、ようやく海底、ここでは沈船の先端が姿を現す。ふわふわと不定形だった周囲にようやく形ができたようで、安心するのである。
The scuba diving in Atami is always the boat diving. Though there are a lot of
points for diving in Atami, we must move to them by the boat. When we are
transported in it, we can take the extensive view of Atami city from the sea.
I'm not good at swimming. In addition, I have a fear of heights. Therefore, I
always feel anxious when I jump into the bottomless sea. In the situation that I
don't know where I am now, I descend with relying on the rope. The sunken
ship appears a little while later. So I feel relieved as I think that the fluffy and
unshaped surroundings finally get the shape.
熱海の魅力は沈船そのものもさることながら、色彩の美しいソフト・コーラルの豊富さ、または隠れ蓑として船に集う小魚の群の大きさ、そしてそれを求めて集まる大魚の群れにあるのだろう。今の時期は、小魚が未だに小魚のままなので、肉食系の魚は遠方で様子を窺っているようである。
二つに割れた前後の船体は、やや離れて沈んでいる。ロープ沿いに潜降した先が、船首である。海面付近の視野は濁っていて、数メートル先も見通せなかったが、潜っていくうちに視野が開けてきた。
甲板に空いた穴から船内を廻ったり、船の脇や船上をゆっくりと巡って海中生物や旭十六号をじっくり観賞する。上下左右、どこにも小魚が遊泳しているのが飽きない。窪んだ側面など、隠れることのできそうな場所には、華やかな色彩のサクラダイやアカオビハナダイも群生していたり、ヒラメがじっと休んでいた。
”春濁り”は、季節の移り変わりとともに解消されていくようである。これからは、新たな生命の誕生や子供の成長の時期が待っている。
The attraction of Atami is not only the sunken ship but also the abundance of
the colorful and beautiful soft coral, the large size of a school of small fishes
which use the soft coral and the sunken ship as the magic cloak of invisibility
and the shoal of the big fishes which gather for them. In this season, as the
small fishes are still the really small shape, the carnivorous fishes are watching them far away.
The fore and aft hull sink slightly apart. The point of the top of the rope which I
used to descend was the bow. The field of view near the sea level was muddy,
so I couldn't even see a few meters ahead. But my horizon had opened while
descending.
I want through the hole on the deck and swam around the inside of the ship. I
proceeded the side and deck of the ship with appreciating the undersea
creatures and "Asahi 16-gou." As the small fished swam everywhere in all the
direction, I had never got bored. In the place where the fishes could hide, such as the hollow of the side, the brightly colored Cherry Anthias and Red-belted
Anthias swam in clusters and the flounder was resting.
"Spring turbidity" is going to eliminate with the change of seasons. From now
on, the season that many new lives are born and young fishes grow up is
waiting for us.
