寺社には、建立に至った伝説が付きものである。初島の寺社も、当然、ご多分に漏れない。

その前に、「初島は、静岡県で唯一、人の住む島である」と言われて、は？とか、え？などと感じる方もいらっしゃるのではないかと思う。伊豆大島をはじめとした伊豆諸島は東京都に属しており、初島のみが静岡県熱海市に属している。歴史を振り返ると、全てが伊豆に属したり、あるいは東京（江戸）に管轄に入ったり、または箱根の管轄になったりと、時の権力者によってその所属が目まぐるしく変化してきたが、本州への圧倒的に近い距離が明治政府を黙認させたか、という一つの説がある。当時、どちらの管轄下に置くかで議論の的になった伊豆諸島の中に、初島は含まれていなかった。

Almost shrines and temples have the legends that lead to the construction. Of
course, shrines and temple in Hatsushima were also same.
Before I mention about it, I think that someone feel ? when listening to
" Hatsusshima is only one island where people live in Shizuoka Prefecture".
Izu Islands including Izu Oshima belong to Tokyo. Only Hatsushima belongs to Shizuoka. When we look bacj the history, all islands belonged to Izu Peninsula, were controlled d by Tokyo (Edo) or came under the jurisdiction of Hakone.
Though the belongings have been changed by the powers at each times
dramatically, there is one theory that overwhelmingly close distance to
Honshu made the Meiji government acquiesce. At the time, the Izu Islands had been the subject of controversy, which jurisdiction was placed on them.
Hatsushima wasn't included in the Izu Islands.

第二漁港を観覧した初島一周の最後に、寺社が現れる。
ここは、漁師の方々が大漁を祈願する海の神が祀られている。伝説によると、大昔、不漁が続いた時に海から剣が現れたらしい。それを御神体として祀ったところ、大漁の日々が続いたことがその由来である。
竜神宮の祭りは、毎年４月３日に開催されているらしい。日々の豊漁に感謝して鯛や鰤などを奉納し、漁師さんたちはこの日は休漁する。そして”大漁鉢巻”なるものを頭に撒いて、桜の下で酒を酌み交わすのが慣わしとなっているそうである。
After I watched the second fishing port, the shrines and temple appeared at the end of the tour around Hatsushima.
At first, it was "Ryujingu (Shrine for Dragon)".
Here, the sea god to whom the fishermen pray for a good catch was worshiped. According to the legend, at the old time, it seems that a sword appeared from
the sea when the poor catch continued. Island's people enshrined it as a sacred object. Then, the day of a big catch had continued everyday. It is the origin.
The festival of "Ryujingu" is held at 3 April every year. The fishermen take a
bread from fishing on this day after they dedicated the sea breams and
yellowtails etc in gratitude for the daily bountiful catch. And it is customary that
they drink Japanese Sake under the cherry blossoms with throwing something
called "big catch headband" on their heads.
