熱海のボランティア団体の方から、緑の桜が咲いていると聞いた。緑の桜？そんなものが本当にあるのか？、と思ったので、実際に訪れてみた。
船井幸雄記念館で咲いていた、と伺っている。調べてみると、来宮神社背後の山原を登ったところである。神社の脇の、宿場を通る細道をてくてく上がっていく。

is blooming. I thought “Green Sakura? Does it exist really?”. So, I decided to
visit and see it.

Kinomiya shrine. I went up the narrow slope beside the shrine, which went
through the small post town.

either. Did I choose a wrong way? Did I have to turn into a path somewhere.
When I went up the slope with apprehension, I found the sign of the memorial
museum.
普通の人家の門である。扉を開けようと取っ手を掴むが、動かない。休館日ではないはずだがと、壁に張り付いた案内を読む。館の域内に入るには、インターホンを鳴らして、スタッフの許可を取らなければならないのが、面白い。

まずご紹介いただいたのが、ストーンサークルである。

桜は、石段を登り切った付近の、あたみ・パンダの森ほいくえんの前に咲いている。
Sakura was blooming in front of Atami・Panada Forest nursery school which
創業はごく最近で、２０２３年１月とのことである。保育園は定員9人の少人数制で、周囲の豊かな自然を日々体感しつつ、個性を大切に伸び伸びと、が、モットーらしい。

So, it limited only 9 children. They can feel the surrounding rich nature
physically. The motto of the school is to cherish children’s individuality and grow freely.
緑の桜（右）と、隣の八重桜（左）である（下の写真）。緑の桜の名前は、”御衣黄”である。
栽培品種のサクラで、サトザクラ群に所属する。日本のサクラの多くは、このサクラと同様、オオシマザクラを基にしているそうである。”御衣黄”の名は江戸時代中期から使用されてきたようで、花の色が貴族の衣服の萌黄色に近似していることに由来している。
黄色・黄緑・緑色系の花を付けるのが特徴で、光合成に欠かせないクロロフィル、日本語で言う葉緑素が多いため、濃い緑色に見えるようである。４月下旬が花期で、始めは白あるいは淡緑に見えるものの、最盛期を過ぎると中心から赤みを帯びてくる（トップの写真をご参照）。訪れた頃は、はや桃色がかっていた。隣の八重桜と比較すると、特徴的な色合いがよくわかる。
The right tree is “Green Sakura”, and the left one is “Yae Zakura” in the following photo.
Japanese name of “Green Sakura” is “Gyoikou”. The name has been used
since Mid Edo period and derived from the fact that the color of the flower
resembles the bright yellow of aristocratic clothing. This Sakura is cultivar and
belongs to “Sato Zakura” group. Most of Sakura is based on “Ohshima Zakura”, same with this Sakura. When I visited the place, the flowers already became
pink.

flowers. The reason that the flowers look like green is that the petals contain
chlorophyll which is essential for photosynthesis. The flower season is late April. Though the beginning of the blossom looks like white or light green, the flowers become reddish from the center after the peak period (please refer to the upper photo). If you compared it with “Yae Zakura”, you would understand the feature especially.
やはり、珍しいサクラだそうである。沖縄県以外の日本各地、100ヶ所以上で鑑賞できるらしい。また、余談ではあるが、合併のために今はなき、かつての秋田県東由利町の町花だったそうである。
As I thought, it is rare Sakura. It seems that we can admire it at more than 100
locations throughout Japan except for Okinawa Prefecture. As an aside, it is the town flower of East Yuri town in Akita Prefecture which no longer exist due to
merger.
