ブーゲンビリアのライトアップにも、足を運んでみた。こちらもなかなか面白い。
ジャカランダは視野の開けた安全な道を自由に周遊できるのに比して、こちらはやや暗い雰囲気の中、足元の覚束ない細道を注意深く歩いていかねばならない。浅いので溺れる心配はないのであろうが、足場が悪いため、やもするとバランスを崩して流れの中に足を踏み入れかねない。そんな悲劇は、誰もが避けたいところであろう。難儀の末に出会える景色である。その小さな感動を、些細な不注意で台無しにしたくはない。
I also watched the lighting up "Bougainvillea." It was very interesting too.
We can roam freely on the safe road with wide view to appreciate Jacaranda.
By comparison, we have to walk the narrow road in a little dark atmosphere
carefully. Of course, we don't have to worry about drowning because the river is very shallow. But the surface pf the road was so rough. We may lose our
balance and step into the flow. Everybody would want to avoid such kind of
tragedy. We can see the nice scene after the difficulty. We wouldn't want to spoil the little impression with a small carelessness.
ライトは強力なのだが、両側が石垣で挟まれており、なおかつ空は暗い。行く手を遮るかのように橋の下は暗闇で、ちょっとした恐怖に見舞われる。色彩が明るいブーゲンビリアは、ここでライトアップするからこそ、見栄えがするように思えた。

surrounded by the stone walls. As if blocking our way, the place under the
bridge was deeply dark. Therefore, I felt a little fear. As Bougainvillea's color
was bright, it seemed to look great by lighting up them.
糸川沿いにこれほど多くのブーゲンビリアが咲くのには、平成１６年に開催された”熱海 花の博覧会 ”が切っ掛けとなっているそうである。当時、この花の愛好家であった熱海市民の方々が、開催に合わせてここに植栽したらしい。その後、１２０本も程まで増えたものの、アタミザクラを糸川沿いのメインに据えることにしたため、現在の４０本ほどにまで減少してしまったそうである。
それでも、春から夏へと徐々に高揚していく気分の移ろいを、寒い冬をようやく脱した淡い紅色の花から、じっとしていても汗の滴る夏を予感させる真っ赤な花で、なんとなく実感できるように思えている。どちらかが特別と言うのではなく、二つで一つなのだろう。

However, as the city decided to grow Atami Zakura mainly along the river, Bougainvillea decreases to about 40 now.

Anyway, we would be able to feel the change of our mind which gradually rise
from spring to summer according to the transition of the color from pink Sakura
in the early spring to red Bougainvillea in the late spring. It is not that either one is special, but the two are one.
実際、桜の方が観賞に訪れる方が多い。ブーゲンビリアは、知る人ぞ知る、といったような印象である。加えて、桜は舗装された歩道を歩くだけで観賞できるが、ブーゲンビリアは、歩道からも観賞はできるものの、じっくり観察しようと思うならば、ちょっと勇気のいる細い階段を降りなければならない。さらに、凹凸の激しい心細い小道から眺めることになるのである。
In fact, many people visit here in the season of Sakura. It is my impression that Bougainvillea is known only some people. In addition, though we can
appreciate Sakura on the paved road (of course, we can watch them from the
same road), we have to go down the narrow stairs with a little brave to
appreciate them closely. Moreover, we must look them on the forlorn path with
severe unevenness.
