子供の頃、夏には家族で毎年、伊豆半島南端の下田へ海水浴に出掛けた。当時は環境汚染の真っただ中で、底まで見通せる綺麗な海は、南伊豆辺りまで行かねば巡り合えなかった。我々の世代では当然のことであったが、大学に入学して中古車を購入すると〇〇を担いで（荷台に積んで）、一人でよく馳せ参じたものだった。
しばらく京都に住んでいたこともあり、夏は下田、の気分が高まってくる。だがちょっと調べてみると、下田に向かうよりも早く安く行くことのできる、面白そうな場所がすぐそこにある。初島である。家からフェリー乗り場まで、徒歩で約２０分、熱海の港から初島までは約３０分、運賃はフェリー代のみである。海沿いを散歩すると、いつも遠目に島の姿が見えていたので、ちょうど気にはなっていたのである。
When I was a child, my family went to the beach of Shimoda in the south edge of Izu Peninsula in annual summer. The time was at the peak of the
environmental pollution. We could see the beautiful and transparent sea only in the south of Izu Peninsula. Since it was natural for our generation to buy the
second-hand car after the entrance of a university, I often went to there alone
with burdening ??? on the back of car.
The thought that I must go to Shimoda in summer was gradually increasing in
my mind as I had lived in Kyoto city for a while. But I found the interesting place which was near my house and cheap to go compared with Shimoda. It is
Hatsushima, island. It took 20 minutes from my house to the ferry platform on
foot, and 30minutes from the harbor to the island. The fare was only the ferry
charge. I often watched the island when I walked on the road along the beach. So I was interested in it.
フェリーが出航すると、カモメがついてくる。乗客がカモメに向かってエビせんを投げたり、うまい棒を掲げたりしている。餌にあり付けるのが解っているのだった。
吹き晒しの船の屋上で、出港時は離れていく熱海の街並みを何となく惜しみ、今度は次第に大きさを増す島の姿を、期待を込めて眺める。不慣れな島旅には、新鮮な高揚感がある。
After the ferry lefrt the platform, a lot of gulls followed the ferry. Some

After the ferry lefrt the platform, a lot of gulls followed the ferry. Some
passengers threw the little snacks to gulls. The gulls caught the snacks with
their bills craftly. The gulls understood that the passengers gave them foods and enjoyed the performance.
On the windy top of the ferry, I slightly felt a small regret to leave my town, and next watched the shape of the island which became big gradually with an
expectation. I had a fresh excitement on this unfamiliar trip to the island.
潜れるポイントは、２か所ある。１つはフェリーの発着する穏やかな港内、もう一つは波の打ち寄せる岩場である。まあ、時間はたっぷりある。未知の海なのため、まずは安全を考慮したくなる。取り敢えず、波のない港内だろう。
生物に見とれて、ついつい追いかけてしまい、フェリーに近づきすぎていると、おっちゃんに注意されてしまった。ソラスズメダイが人慣れしており、群れを成して周囲を取り巻いてくれる。昼過ぎは食事時なのであろう。浅い船の陸揚げ場に多種の魚群が集まって、盛んに何かを啄んでいる。

There were two spots to be able to dive. One was in the calm harbor which the
ferry took off and arrived, another was the rocky beach with wave. I have a lot of time to dive. I considered safety at first because I was a stranger here. Anyway, I have to dive the calm harbor.
As I was fascinated by a creature and chasing it, I was warned by the male ship attendant " be careful! You are too close to the dangerous zone!". As Neon
damselfishes were familiar with human, they gathered around me. It would be
the mealtime after the noon for almost fishes. Many kinds of fishes formed
flocks and pecked something on the bottom of the shallow boat landing.
荷物を引き摺って岩場を見に行く。ブイが張ってあるので安全ではあろうが、防波堤がないため、波が直接押し寄せている。海中状況もよくわからないので若干不安になるが、潜ってみないと何とも言えない。
波打ち際からすぐ、水深が３～４ｍほどになる。透明度が高いので、水底から周囲に至るまで見通しが良い。そのため、あまり恐怖心は湧かなかった。こちらでは、自然そのままのダイナミックな海景が広がっている。整地された港内とはまた違った魚種が遊泳しているので、新たな発見と楽しみがある。

I went to the rocky beach with dragging the big luggage next. It would be safe to attach some buoys. But the waves crashed on the rocks because here was no breakwater. I couldn't judge anything because I was a stranger and didn't know the condition of this sea.
The water depth became about 3 to 4m near the beach. As here was highly
transparent, the outlook from the bottom to the surrounding was very beautiful. I didn't feel fear for the reason. A dynamic seascape in its natural state was
spreading here. The fishes which were different from the leveling harbor swam. I enjoyed finding something new.

初島からは、伊豆半島の尾根越しに、富士が見える。最終のフェリーが午後６時前なので、８月の後半に差し掛かれば、ちょうど夕日を眺めることができる。
You can see Mt. Fuji from Hatsushima over the mountains of Izu Peninsula. The last ferry set off the harbor before 6 pm. Therefore, you may just watch the
sunset from the second half of August.
