熱海には二つの大きな神社がある。一つは、一昨年の六月末に大規模な土砂災害の発生した伊豆山にある伊豆山神社、もう一つは私の住んでいる区域の属する来宮神社である。
来宮神社にも、成り立ちの伝説がある。
要約して紹介すると、約１３００年前に漁師の網に、何やら立派な木像様の物がかかった。これは何だろうと思って眺めていると、突然子供が傍に現れて、「私は五十猛命だ。この地の波の音の届かない場所に七体の楠の洞があるはずだ。探してそこに、私を祀るがよい。さすれば住民ばかりでなく、この地を訪れるものも守ってやろう」と話したので、探してみると、現在の来宮神社の地にそれがあった、そうである。
There are two shrines in Atami. One is Izusan shrine on Mt Izusan where a
large-scale landslide disaster occurred at the end of June in 2021, another is
Kinomiya shrine whose area I live in.
Of course, Kinomiya shrine has a legend about establishment.
I introduce the summary here.
About 1300 years ago, a splendid wooden statue was caught in the fisherman's net. When he gazed at it with thinking what this was, a child appeared suddenly. He said "I am Iso Takeru no Mikoto (the god of the big trees and the protection of nature). I heard that there are seven caves in the camphor trees on the place where the sound of the wave doesn't reach. Find, and enshrine me there. If you did it, I promise to protect not only the residents but also the visitors to this
place". The fisherman search around and find it in the current area of Kinomiya shrine.
巨大な鳥居をくぐって参道に入ると、すぐ左手に、京都の稲荷大社を彷彿とさせる、こちらは小さな朱色の鳥居が参道上に連なっている。その先に、お稲荷様に守られた小ぶりな来宮稲荷社があった。やはり、京都の伏見稲荷大社より勧請されたものであるらしい。

left side the small and red "Torii" were in a row over the road, which
remembered "Fushimi Inari" in Kyoto. There was "Kinomiya Inarisya" protected by two little "Oinari sama (Fox statues)" through the gates. It was solicited from "Fushimi Inari" in fact as I thought.
そこを過ぎると、右手に第二大楠が、頭上高く聳えている。この大楠が圧巻なのが、地面から二メートルほどまで幹の中が空洞なのである。なんでも、昔に落雷にあったのが原因であるらしい。幹に触れるとみずみずしく、高い枝には緑の葉を目一杯繁らせている。こんな姿なのに、生きている。その力強い生命の神秘に、厳かで敬虔な気持ちと共に、慈しみが湧く。

high above my head. The reason that this tree is mysterious is that the inside of the trunk is hollow about 2m from the ground. I was informed that it was caused by a lightning strike in the old time. When I touch the stem, I understand the
surface maintained the freshness. Moreover, The branches of the high place were full of green leaves. It has lived in spite of this shape. Affection occurred to
the mystery of the powerful life with the solemn and reverent feelings in my
mind.
鬱蒼と茂る樹々に天を覆われた参道から階段を上がると、本殿前の開けた境内に出る。右方に立派な鯉の泳ぐ池があり、背後に巨大な”弁天岩”がズンと居座っている。この奇岩は、古来の神々の宿る磐座である。
After I climbed the stairs from the approach where the sky was covered with
dense trees, I went out the open place in front of the main hall. I could watch
the pond where the nice carps swam, and the big rock, the name "Benten Iwa", stayed behind the pond. It is believed that the gods of the ancient time dwell in this strange rock, "Iwakura" in Japanese.
本殿を、二頭の狛犬が厳しい眼付きで守っている。サッカー好きには、足元に球を抱えているのが嬉しい。本殿の右脇には、隠れたように弁財天が建っている。ここも、日本五弁財天の一つである宮城県の沖合の島にある金華山に由来する、とのことである。
ところで、来宮神社の境内内には、三つのハートが隠されているらしい。前回は二つ目までは解った。今回は一応三つは見付けたものの、これは二つで一つではないか、などの疑念が湧く。もう一個あるんじゃないか、との思いがどうしても拭えない。きっと、そんな安易ではあるまい。などと、ハートを三つ探しながらの参拝も、違った楽しみがあるかもしれない。

People who like soccer would rejoice if they found the ball under the foot
"Komainu". "Benzaiten” was built quietly on the right side of the main hall. It also came from "Kongousan" which is on the offshore island of Miyagi prefecture
and also one of the five main "Bebzaiten" in Japan.
By the way, I heard that "the three hearts" was hidden in the precinct of
Kinomiya shrine. I found two hearts before. Though I probably found three, I
suspected that these were one in two. I continued to consider that maybe there was another one. It couldn't be so easy. ......You may enjoy the different type of
the worship with searching three hearts like this.
本殿の裏へと誘う細い竹林を進む。すると、待望の第一大楠が姿を現す。第一大楠もそうであるが、こちらも樹齢が二千年を超す。ただ、第一大楠には想像をはるかに超えた、老樹のみがなせる畏怖が、しっかりと幹の太さや表面に表れている。元々は太い幹が二本だったのか。片方は切り倒された形跡がある。もう一方の幹は、少し見上げたところから三本に分かれ、それぞれが真っ直ぐに伸びていく。その異形に圧倒されて、言葉も出ない。
大楠を一周できる遊歩道から階段が伸びており、屋外で憩える喫茶店がある。そこから歩道が突き出ており、この大楠を横から眺めることもできる。

I proceeded the narrow road between the forest of the bamboos, which leaded behind the main hall. The long-waited first camphor tree appeared in front of
me. This tree has lived over 2000 years too. But it had the awe which only the
old tree could represent on the surface of the trunk. I imagined that the two thick trunks grew originally. There was the trace of being cut down at one trunk.
Another divided into three from the place where I looked up a little. I couldn't
find any words to represent the impression as I was overwhelmed by the
grotesque shape.
The stairs stretched from the promenade which went around the tree. There
was a cafe where we can rest outside. A footpath protruded from the space. You would be able to look at the big camphor tree from the side.
