竜神宮から港の方へ進み、民宿街に出たところに初木神社がある。初島の鎮守であるこの神社は、大津海見命、豊玉姫命、初木姫命を祀っている。
代々神主を兼ねてきたのが、熱海の南の網代に住む阿治古神社の高杉家である。その家に、初木神社のご神体である”懸仏（鏡板に仏や神の像を掘ったり貼ったりした器物）”が残されており、その制作年代から推測するに、創建された年代は鎌倉時代以前ではないかと言われている。
あるいは、社殿の下には、はるか古墳時代にて祈りの場所とされていた”磐倉（いわくら）”の跡が発見されたそうである。
観應２年（西暦１３５１年）に改築したとの棟札があるため、現在ではその年の創建となっている。

I proceeded to the port from "Ryujingu" moreover. And I arrived at Hatsuki
Shrine outside the gest house district. This is the guardian of Hatsushima and
enshrines "Ohwatatsumi no Mikoto", "Toyotamahime no Mikoto" and
"Hatsukihime no Mikoto".
Takasugi family who have lived in Ashiro of the southern Atami and managed
Ajiko Shrine has served as the Shinto priest for generations in this shrine.
"Kakebutu (an utensil which was curved or pasted the images of Buddha or
Gods on the back panel of mirror)" is the object of worship for Hatsuki Shrine
and iIt was left in the family. Judging from the production year, the time of the
construction seemed to be before Kamakura Era.
Or, the traces of "Iwakura" which was the place for the pray in Kofun period was found under the main hall.
There was "Tourei (the building tag)" on which the words, "Reconstruction in
1351" were written. So its establishment becomes the year currently.
お初の悲恋伝説
”大昔の物語である。初島には家が６軒しかなく、淋しい島だった。
ある時、まだ１７歳だったお初が伊豆山のお祭りに訪れると、右近という素晴らしい男性と出会い、恋に落ちたそうである。
「百夜通えば、恋は成就する」との古くからの言い伝えを信じ、三里の海上の距離（約３５キロ）を、盥に乗って真摯に通った。だがあと一日と迫った九十九日目の夜に、お初を気に入っていた別の男が嫉妬心から、お初が海上で目印としていた火を消してしまった。行く手を見失ったお初は一晩中海の上を彷徨った挙句、波にのまれて亡くなってしまったそうである。
悲嘆にくれた右近は、お初の弔いのためと諸国巡礼の旅に出る。ただ、怨念の感情も強かったのか。お初を死に導いた男は七日七夜苦しみ続け、遂に死に至ったそうである。”
その、お初の惨い悲恋を表す句がある。
”島の乙女のはや胸に、秘めて高鳴る 琴の緒の断たれて悲しい恋の火よ”
The tragic love legend of "Ohatsu"
"This is the very old story. At the time, there were only 6 houses in Hatsushima, so it was the lonesome island.
One day, when Ohatsu who was still 17 years old visited the festival of Izusan,
she met the nice guy, Ukon, and fell in love with him.
She believe the tradition from the old time that "if you went through one hundred nights, your love would come true". She went 35 km on the sea by riding the
wooden tub earnestly. However, on the night of the ninety-ninth day, which was one day away, another man who liked Ohatsu vanished the fire which was the
sign from the sea for Ohatsu from the evil jealousy. Ohatsu lost her way. After
wandering over the sea all night, she was swallowed by a wave and died finally.
Ukon grieved deeply. He decided to embark on the pilgrimage trip to various
countries for the purpose of mourning. His grudge might be too strong. After
another man who led Ohatsu to death continued to suffer for seven days and
seven nights, he died at last."
The verse that expresses her bitter tragedy was bequeathed.
"In the heart of the island maiden,
secretly throb
the flame of love is sad by cutting off a Koto (Japanese old instrument) string"
初木姫伝説
こちらの伝説は古く、日本の神話にも関わりのある物語である。時代は、中国の南北朝の時代に遡る。
”初木姫は日向から東国へ旅に出たものの、伊豆の沖で遭難してしまいました。その後、何とか一人、小島に漂着します。それがここ、初島でした。
対岸に誰かいないだろうかと、毎晩磯辺を歩いては火を焚いて、合図を送り続けます。やがて誰か（ここで相手が解っているのが、伝説らしいのですが）がこれに応えたことに勇気を得て、渡航を決意します。萩で筏を組み、草を織って帆にします。そして何とか、伊豆山小波戸崎（現伊豆山港）へ行きつきます。
御相手の伊豆山彦と初めて会ったのが、”逢染橋または逢初橋（あいぞめばし）”と言われています。至福の初木姫は伊豆山中腹まで登ると、木の中に住む二人の子供の精、日精・月精を発見し、乳母としてこの二人の精を育てることを決断しました。
やがて二人が育つと、初木姫はこの二人を夫婦にします。そして、子孫は繫栄することとなりました。めでたし、めでたし。”
昔の伊豆山権現の祖先は、この二人の妖精であるらしい。この伝説は、先に紹介したお初の悲恋の元になっているとも言われているそうである。
The legend of Princess Hatsuki
This legend is very old and associated with Japanese mythology. The era is
back to the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties in China.
"When Princess Hatsuki traveled from Hyuga to eastern countries, she got lost off the coast of Izu. She somehow draft ashore of the small island. The island
was Hatshshima. She considered "is someone on the opposite shore?". So
every night she walked on the beach and lighted a fire and continued to send
the sign. As eventually someone (it is apparent that who he is. It is common in
legends) reacted it and she got courage by it, she decided to cross the sea. She built the raft by using Hagi and weaved the grasses into sails. Finally, she
arrived at Izusan Kominato-zaki (it is Izusan port now).
The place where she met Izusanhiko at first seemed to be "Aizome Bridge".
When the happy Princess Hatsuki climbed at the middle of Izu Mountain, she found two child spirits living in the tree. She decided to nurture these two spirits
as a wet nurse.
After they grew up, Princess Hatsuki made the two a couple. Their descendants became to prosper in future. This is the auspicious story."
Now the ancestors of the old Izusan Gongen are these two spirits. This legend become the base of the tragic love of Ohatsu which I introduce above.
初木神社は初木姫伝説による結びつきから、伊豆山神社の境外社、つまり境内の外、飛び地の境内地に祀ってある神社になっているようである。神事の際の神主は、伊豆山神社の神主である。
御朱印を御所望であれば、港にある待合施設「シマテラス初島」に伺えばよいそうである。
By the connection based on the legend of Princess Hatsuki, Hatsuki Shrine was treated as the outside shrine of Izusan Shrine. At the festival, the Shinto priest
of Izusan Shrine acts this shrine's Shinto priest.
If you wish "Goshuin (the stamp of shrine)", you have to visit the waiting facility at the port, "Shimaterasu Hatsushima".
毎年７月１７日、１８日に例大祭と本祭りが開催される。初島の繁栄と安全を祈願して、境内にて踊りが披露されるそうである。踊りの名は”鹿島踊り”であり、茨城の鹿島神社に由来している。この日は漁師を始め、スーパーも食堂街も皆が休業にして、島民全員で祝うそうである。
Every year on July 17th and 18th, the annual festival and the main festival were held. The citizens pray the prosper and safety of Hatsushima and the special
dance was performed in the precincts. The name of the dance is "Kashima
Dance", which derives from Kashima Shrine in Ibaragi Prefecture. Starting with
fishermen, all supermarkets and restaurants in this island are closed. All
islanders including the stuffs of Hotel celebrate it.
