「採石指導者として、遠く九州から一人の男を招いた。よくある話で、その男は旧宇久須村に住む漁師の娘と恋に落ちた。二人は密かに、当時ここにあった夫婦石で逢瀬を重ねていた。今現在もあまり変わらないところもあるが、昔は露骨な村社会である。二人の関係を知った漁師の父は激怒し、「余所者には娘はやらぬ！」と豪語したため、男はここで仕事ができなくなったので、故郷へ帰らざるをえなくなった。二人は細やかな思い出として、逢瀬の目印であった夫婦石の脇に紅白の椿を植えた。そしてそれを、二人で”夫婦椿”と名付けたのであった。」

As the sea at Kawana Beach was rough, we visited at the diving shop in west

Izu in a hurry. It is at the foot of Koganezaki Observatory. I eat a food once a

day, only dinner. During the long break when everyone had lunch, I went to the short cape sightseeing. The instructor who are familiar with me gave me the

kindly word "Be careful of the acute slope".

After I climbed the narrow slope from the shop near beach, I saw "Fuufu

Tsubaki (Couple Camellia)" which bloom the white and red flower each other.

The origin of the name went back to the tragic love story which occurred at the

time of the gold, silver and copper mine here.

The citizens invited a man from far away, Kyushu. Though it's a common story,

the man fell in love with a fisherman's daughter who lived in the former Ukusu

village. They saw at "couple stone" many times secretly. We would think that

there are some things that haven't changed much even now. At the old time,

every village was the blatant village society. When her father knew their

relationship, he was furious, and said "I don't give my daughter to an outsider

absolutely". Therefore, he lost the job and had to go back to his hometown.

They planted the white and red camellias next to the couple stone as their

memory. Eventually, people named it "Fuufu Tsubaki".

採石場の閉鎖と共に、この椿もなくなってしまった。だが、現在では縁結びの場所として、地元の若衆の手により再現されたそうである。

夫婦椿を案内しているパネルには、二人と椿を重ねた詩が記されていた。

”心と心を清れば
微笑む花となる
夫婦ほうき”

At the same time of the close of this mine, the camellia was lost. However, it

was reproduced by the local young men as the place for matchmaking.

The poem was written on the guide panel of the camelia.

"If we purify every heart each other,

we would be the smiling flowers,

husband and wife broom (I'm sorry that this expression may be wrong, because I couldn't solve Japanese meaning by using every tools.)"

その後の分かれ道を左に進むと、鳥居とごく小さな社だけの黄金神社がある。別名は、願愛海岸物語らしい。社の前に石を積むと、願いが成就すると伝えられている。

隣りに、”黄金崎音頭”の歌詞を刻んだ石碑がある。

After I went to the left road at the fork, I found "Kogane shrine" which had only a red torii and the very small shrine. It seemed to have an another name, "the

coast story for praying love". It is believed that if you piled a stone in front of the shrine, your wish would come true.

Next to the shrine, the stone monument which was caved the lyrics of

"Koganezaki Ondo (Kokganezaki dance)".

黄金崎展望台周辺で観察できる野鳥も、画像付きのパネルで紹介されている。

The wild birds which we can observe around the observation deck were

introduced by the panel with the nice images.

左方に伸びる階段を登っていくと、展望台用の駐車場に行きつく。ここには、三島由紀夫の「獣の戯れ」の句碑が立っている。

「獣の戯れ」は、強く感銘を受けた作品の一つであり、映画化もされている。京都で経営していた自身のバーでは、月に一度、参加者が月周りで担当になり、”映画の会”を開催していた。とある私の当番の際、１９６４年作製、まだモノクロ画面であった若尾文子出演の作品を上映したところ、意外に若者にも好評であった。

舞台はこの一帯の土肥と言われており、小説内にはこの黄金崎を巧みに描写した一節がある。句碑には、その一部が彫り込まれている。

After I climbed the stairs which stretched in the left direction, I arrived at the

parking lot for the observation deck. Here, the novel monument of "Kemono no

tawamure (The frolic of the beasts)" which was written by Yukio Mishima was

established.

"The frolic of the beasts" is one of the works that really impressed me and was made into a movie. When I managed my bar in Kyoto, I held "Movie Club" once a month. At the club, there is the rule that the manager of the movie changes at each month among the participants. When my turn came, I screened the

monochrome movie which was made in 1964 and Ayako Wakao came on the

screen in it. Surprisingly, it was also well received by young people.

It is said that the stage of the movie is around "Toi" which include "Koganezaki". In the novel, there is one passage that skillfully describes "Koganezaki". On the monument, only one part was carved into the stone.

先端の展望台まで伸びる遊歩道は狭いうえに高低があり、切り立った崖沿いに伸びているため、スリリングである。歩道の左側には簡素な木柵が建てられている。外は、すぐ崖である。やもすると滑落の危険があった。

The promenade leading to the observation deck at the tip of the cape was

narrow and highs and lows. In addition, I felt thrilling because the road stretched along the steep cliff. The simple wooden fences have been erected along the

promenade. There was the cliff just outside. There was a risk of falling.
